Because the Lord Jesus Christ mediates His sovereign rule through His Word rightly interpreted and applied, Harvest Christian Fellowship endeavors to proclaim the whole counsel of God through verse-by-verse expository preaching of Scripture at each weekly gathering.
We are somewhat unique among Baptists* in that we are led by a plurality of elders, yet, our church government is congregational. This means that in matters of church governance, discipline, discipleship, and doctrine the congregation collectively has decision-making authority within the guardrails of every Christian’s responsibility to be faithful stewards of God’s Word.
At Harvest, we believe and teach that a proper understanding of God’s righteous demands (the law) leads to a proper appreciation of God’s good news (the gospel). Simply put, perfect obedience to the law is what God requires of every person. The gospel is the free gift of righteousness that God gives to those who trust in Christ alone (Romans 8:1). That is good news!
As beloved children who have been rescued from spiritual death and raised to new life, God the Father does not leave any of His redeemed ones to themselves but permanently adopts them and His Holy Spirit abides in them, giving them completely new desires to live joyfully for God and His glory continually (Psalm 34:1). Formerly the enemies of God, those who are rescued become spiritually united with Christ and are, thus, able to live transformed lives (Romans 12:1-2) and worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
When we gather (Hebrews 10:24-25), we realize that each gathering will contain a mixture of redeemed and unredeemed people—the redeemed being those who humbly bow to the authority of Scripture and the Lordship of Christ. We recognize that unredeemed people may call Jesus their “Lord.” Still, in reality, when pressed with the choice of exercising faith and doing God’s will versus doing their own will and whatever feels most comfortable, they will choose the latter (Matthew 7:21-23).
Our aim is to maintain a church membership roll filled with people who genuinely love the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 16:22). Therefore, in our gatherings, we call unredeemed souls to turn from sin to Christ even as we emphasize the edification of those who are redeemed—singing God-centered, gospel-focused songs, pouring our hearts out to the Lord in prayer, celebrating the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and attending to the faithful, expositional preaching of God’s Word.
We desire to live as joyful, “Psalm 1 people” who meditate on God’s Word and who walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16). Our aim is to display the active rule of the Lord in and through us. Empowered by God’s Holy Spirit, we seek to manifest His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-25) in tangible ways among our family, friends, co-workers, community, and throughout the world.
